Junior Gaelic Success
Marist College: 7-7
Moate Community School: 1-6
On Tuesday the 26th of November our Junior Gaelic team began their highly anticipated championship campaign against Moate Community School. Moate started strong with two early points but soon after conceded a penalty. Dylan Dennehy Lyons stepped up to the mark and blasted the ball by the Moate keeper. Marist followed up with two points, kicked over by Donnchadh O’ Dwyer and Daragh Murray. The Marist men continued to extend their lead with two well placed goals from Daragh Murray and Dylan Dennehy Lyons. Seán Whittaker finished off the half rattling the Moate net with another goal. Going in at the break the Marist had a nine-point lead with a scoreline of 4-2 to 1-2.
With the backing of the home support, the Marist immediately pressed up securing points from Daragh Murray, Andrew Cotton and James Geoghegan. A perfectly timed pass allowed Diarmuid O’Higgins to calmly slot the ball past the Moate keeper. Whittaker kept the scoreboard ticking over with two more points to close out the game. Moate never gave up and were constantly looking for the counter attack, but O’Higgins quickly shut them down with a goal and a point right on the final whistle, finishing off the game with a scoreline of 7-7 to 1-6. Next up we face St. Patrick’s of Navan away which will be a huge test for the team.
