Science Week

Once again the Science Department had a week long programme of activities to mark national Science Week. First Year students completed imaginative posters and also had the experience of being taught by TY students! It was a true example of student led teaching.

On Monday 2nd year students enjoyed an Astronomy and Space Science Workshop, this was held in St Mary’s Hall in conjunction with The Gateway Project and NUI Galway. The students got an introduction to astronomy and space exploration as well as partaking in board games with a science slant.

Senior Agricultural Science students were busy designing cakes to mirror a cell, a very innovative idea. With the Biology lab transformed to the set of The Great British Bake Off the students engaged enthusiastically with their task and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

Our Junior classes took part in an online science quiz in each of the different year groups. Winners to be announced next week along with the winner of our first year poster presentation competition.

Second year students took part in an

online event where school students meet and interact with scientists. It’s an X Factor-style competition between scientists, where the students are the judges.
