TY Students meet Holocaust Survivor Tomi Reichental

On Wednesday last our Transition Year students had a opportunity to view a screening of a ‘Condemned2Remember’ a production by Director Gerry Gregg of a powerful, timely and vital documentary that follows Irish Holocaust Survivor Tomi Reichental as he embarks on an epic journey across a Europe in turmoil.

Irish Holocaust survivor Tomi Reichental celebrates his 80th birthday in a Dublin Mosque and embarks on an epic journey across a Europe in turmoil.

In Germany, Tomi concludes his long quest to bring the convicted SS war criminal Hilde Michnia to account for her secrets and lies.

In Poland and Slovakia, he confronts the ‘crisis of shame’ that prevents an honest reckoning with the scale of local ‘collusion’ with the Nazi extermination project.

In Bosnia, Tomi embraces Muslim survivors of a genocide, who still search for the bones of their loved ones.

Along the way he puts himself into the shoes of the “new Jews” and discovers a strong common bond with refugees fleeing the hell that is Syria.

Following the screening of the very moving documentary, our students were joined by Mr.Reichental and Mr. Gerry Gregg producer.

To say that Mr. Reichentals words had a profound effect on all present would be an understatement. Our students and teachers had a wonderful opportunity to speak with Mr. Reichental in a questions and answers session that lasted over ninety minutes.

A wonderful afternoon for all involved.
