Senior Gaelic Team Cruise into Leinster Quarter Final

Marist College 3-20

Maynooth PP 0-5

Well done to our senior footballers who secured an emphatic 24 point win over Maynooth PP on Wednesday to advance to the Leinster colleges 'A' quarter final, which is due to be played towards the end of January.

Marist were fastest out of the blocks and notched 1-3 in the first 8 minutes with points from Paddy McGettigan and Josh Beaumont, and 1-1 from Ciaran Sugrue. Maynooth got 2 points of their own quickly after that. Four points in a row, one each from Sugrue and Tom O'Carroll, and 2 from Shane Cunnane steadied Marist again. Maynooth responded with a fine point. The Marist lads finished strongly with 5 unanswered points from Beaumont, Sugrue, Cunnane, and 2 Kieran Colclough frees to leave it 1-12 to 0-03 at half time in Kiltoom.

There was no let up from the home side in the second half, notching 1-5 without reply to kill the game off in the third quarter. A fortuitous goal from Ciaran Sugrue, was followed by points from Josh Beaumont (free), Cunnane and two from Kieran Colough (frees), and Sugrue. Maynooth, to their credit, never threw in the towel and were rewarded with two points for their second half display. Marist continued to rack up further scores from Beaumont, and 2 customary Kieran Colclough frees, before a ruthless finish from Fred Kelleher rounded off the scoring with a fine goal following great team play from Paddy McGettigan, Rory Dempsey and Joe Carmody. On a game where every player shone, the Marist back 7 deserve immense credit for their tigerish display, while Josh Beaumont, Shane Cunnane, and Ciaran Sugrue never gave the Maynooth defence a chance to gain their composure. Many thanks to St. Brigids Kiltoom who had their pitch in pristine condition for this game.
