Senior Gaelic Team Advance To Leinster Semi-Final

Congratulations to our Senior Gaelic Team who overcame a stiff challenge from Scoil Aodhain Dublin, to advance to the semi-final of the blue riband event of Leinster Colleges Football. Played in heavy conditions in St Loman;s Mullingar, Marist turned in a super 2nd half display to come away with the victory.

Scoil Aodhain were first off the mark but Marist replied through Ciaran Sugrue (2), Kieran Colclough (f), and Shane Allen. A Scoil Aodhain goal followed in a frantic start. The scoring rate slowed for the rest of the half with Scoil Aodhain getting 4 points to 1 Kieran Colclough point, as Scoil Aodhain enjoyed a period of dominance. However just before half-time Colclough was on hand to fist the ball to the net for the Marist to leave it all square, 1-5 each at the break. Scoil Aodhain were first off the mark in the second half and took a one point lead. However a dominant period saw the Marist fight back to lead with points from Josh Beaumont (3, 1f), Ciaran Sugrue, and Shane Cunnane. Scoil Aodhain reduced the deficit but Marist closed the game out with a Shane Cunnane free and a great point from Fred Kelleher. Marist won on a score line of 1-12 to 1-8. Well done to the lads on a great team performance. We now play Offaly Schools in the semi-final on Saturday 17th February.

Many thanks to all the staff, parents, past and current students, and all supporters who travelled to Mullingar to support the team.
