Battle of Wits
Congrats to of our Battle of Wits team of Edward Clarke, Josh Earley Daniel Butler and Eoin McCarthy who qualified for the regional finals after coming second in the Westmeath Schools competition. 1) St. Finian’s, Mullingar 2) Marist College, Athlone 3) Meán Scoil and Chlochair, Kilbeggan The top three teams will now go forward to the Regional Final in Athlone on 6th December at 11am. First Year Student Reaches National Final of Poetry Aloud
Congratulations to First Year student Bill Carmody who has successfully reached the national final of the ninth annual Poetry Aloud competition, organised by the National Library of Ireland and Poetry Ireland Bill has already progressed through the regional heats and last week was selected after the national; semi-finals. Senior Gaelic Team Off To A Flying Start
Marist College 0-17 St Fintan’s HS 0-6 Well done to our senior footballers who won their first Leinster 'A' championship group game in Dublin last Thursday. Played on a tight pitch in blustery conditions, Marist were first off the mark through Fred Kelleher and Eoin Mulvihill. Marist Student placed in Top 10 of The Irish European Union Science Olympia
Transition Year Student Edward Clarke finished in the top 10 in the Irish European Union Science Olympiad, which was held in DCU last weekend. Senior Science Team Win Midlands Senior Science Quiz
Congratulations to Tommy Glynn, Joe Reidy and Darren O’Hara Duggan who took the top prize in the Midlands Senior Science Quiz. Organised by the Irish Science Teachers Association in conjunction with Science Week, this competition saw 34 teams from all schools across the Midlands Region compete. It a great achievement by the students and credit to their Science teachers for all the work over the years.


Science Week
Once again the Science Department had a week long programme of activities to mark national Science Week. First Year students completed imaginative posters and also had the experience of being taught by TY students! It was a true example of student led teaching. On Monday 2nd year students enjoyed an Astronomy and Space Science Workshop, this was held in St Mary’s Hall in conjunction with The Gateway Project and NUI Galway. Marist Students Awarded UCD Entrance Scholar Awards
We were delighted to learn that two of our past pupils were awarded entrance scholar awards to UCD. Both Alan Parker and Brian Leahy received their awards at a ceremony in UCD on Wednesday last. Alan is currently studying Economics and Finance while Brian is pursuing a course in Computer Science. The two boys completed their Leaving Certificate in June 2017, and their outstanding results have earned them the prestigious awards.
