

FTA Junior French Quiz
Congratulations to both of our 1st Year teams who took part in the FTA French quiz last week. The teams engaged in a very close competition, with the Marist coming in second place after an exciting tie-breaker round. Our teams comprised of Andrew Sheffield, James Murray, Joseph Okegbenro, David O’Shea, Luis Clevett, Oisin Byrne, Eoin Kane and Sean MacCarthy.


John Hooper Maths Competition
Well done to all the Transition Year students who submitted excellent statistical presentations for the John Hooper Medal competition. A special mention to Ronan Bars, Aaron Lynch and Callum McKnight who were awarded first prize from the high standard of school entries.


IAMTA Applied Maths Competition
Well done to Billy McDonnell, Ruaidhri Campion and Edward Clarke who recently took part in the IAMTA Senior Applied Maths Quiz


Scifest in the Marist College
Well done to all the students that took part in SciFest on Thursday. Students showcased their projects for six judges from the locality. Thanks to Westmeath County Council, Nuala Commins, Head of Department in Athlone Institute of Technology, Paul Cunningham from Cunningham’s Pharmacy and Sheila Porter founder of SciFest. Congratulations to our top three winners Donál McDermott, Eoin Kane and David O’Shea. These students go through to the regional final next month. Well done


Equestrian Event
Well done to Francis Derwin who won the 148cm Pony Spring Tour, which was held in Ard Chuain Equestrian Centre last weekend.


Junior Basketball
Congratulations to our 1st Year Basketball team who had a great win against Heywood Community School in Laois. This result means that our 1st Years are currently unbeaten in their league and look forward to their next game against Confey College, Leixlip later this week. Hard luck to our 2nd Year team who faced a very experienced Heywood side. Having gained several wins earlier in the league, the team aim for a competitive final league match against Confey.


World Book Day Activities
World Book Day was celebrated on the 7th of March and Marist students took part in numerous book related activities. 1st and 2nd Year students had the opportunity to Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) each day for fifteen minutes before break. Students took part in book discussions, where reading recommendations were made, and created a list of ‘must read’ books. 2nd Years researched their favourite authors and presented projects to their peers. Top Three Finish for Marist Sailing Team
Well done to the Marist Sailing team of Alexander, Eoghan, Mathew, Darragh, Rory and Dylan who recently competed in the Connacht Secondary Schools Team Racing Championships in Carraroe, Co Galway. After a day of very light airs in cold conditions, their top three finish ensures they now go on to compete in the National Championships in Schull next month.


IMTA Maths Quiz
Congratulations to Donál McDermott and David O’Shea who qualified for the regional round of the IMTA 1st Year Maths Competition. This round will take place in Tullamore at the end of the month. Best of luck boys!
