Marist Students win National CanSat Finals - Will Represent Ireland in European Finals

A team of 4 students from Marist College have won the prestigious national CanSat final. Paul McGrath, Usman Riaz, Padraig McDermott and Sebastian Klosowski were declared the winners from the 8 finalist in the national final held in Portlaoise last week. After 2 days of flying their CanSat, presentations and gruelling questions from the judges, Marist team were declared the winners. CanSat is a European Union wide initiative that is supported by 3rd level institutions and private industry. Students must design a satellite that fits in a can and can then be launched via parachute and record data like air pressure and temperature as it travels. It demands a very high level of skill, knowledge and hard work and it involves all aspects of STEM subjects.

As Irish champions, the Marist team and their physics teacher Ms Georgina Clear will head to The Azores at the end of June where they will represent Ireland in the European CanSat Final.
